Standin on The Corner and Riding the Jackrabbit, another day another story.

Day 9
Flagstaff AZ to Holbrook AZ
95 Miles with crazy winds.

Today was one of those days where I just couldn't get any sort of rhythm going.
The best way to describe today was Peddalin', Pissin' & Patchin'.
Above is a picture of Dave changing his flat, notice the scenery in the background, this is what we saw for 95 miles. In our small group of 5 we had 5 flats today (2 were mine). Flats are a pain but they also give a needed break on days like today when you are on the interstate with nothing to do but avoid shredded truck tires and road kill.

I get asked all the time "where do you go to the bathroom?", So, here is the short and sweet answer on how this works. If is is just a group of guys you get off the bike and point downwind, if you are in a mixed group you do pretty much the same thing and try to allow for some privacy but when you gotta go....We actually were able to use a roadway rest area today but the next one wasn't for another 128 miles so we will make use of that tomorrow.

Between Flagstaff and Holbrook is Winslow, this allowed everyone to get off the interstate for a few miles and get the mandatory picture of themselves "Standin on the Corner"
Yes, they do have a Flatbed Ford on the corner.

The other mandatory picture along the route is in Jackrabbit AZ, I wasn't going to try to ride it but I guess I just got a wild hare :).

Since there is nothing out here in the middle of nowhere I guess folks feel the need to create something to look at, if it isn't a street corner or a giant jackrabbit, it is a Tee Pee hotel complete with cars from the 50's.
The Tee Pee hotel is here in beautiful Holbrook AZ and is without doubt the highlight of Holbrook.

Tomorrow is Holbrook AZ to Gallup NM, 87 miles and some reasonable climbing.
I think it's time for a beer, a little reading and some sleep. Breakfast comes early.

Dream BIG, Jeff

  4. Holbrook to Gallup is the most beautiful ride of the trip. You climb in the morning and then all of a sudden after the SAG you get the most fantastic views of New Mexico. One of my favorite days. Enjoying your blog. Jan XC10

  6. We saluted you in Ride class last night, Jeff. Thanks for keeping us included on your journey. The question is, "Did the girl in the Flatbed Ford slow down to take a look at you?"
    Happy Trails,
