Day 33 - Crossed over to Indiana. Tales of the Attack Helmet

Day 33
80 Miles - Champaign IL to Crawfordsville, IN
Unfriendly winds but we avoided the blasting heat.

Today is "Helmet Decoration Day". It is tradition to have a day where people decorate their helmets and ride the day with their helmet decorated.
We had some great helmets, Vinny was "Dairy King" and Tracy was "Drama Queen". Dave & Adrianne were "Team Roadkill", Chris & Penny (from England) had a USA Patriot / Ballerina theme, The Dawn Patrol went as drag queens and their were others that were great as well.
I went with a "Butt Butter" theme. My helmet had all types of tubes of lotions and wipes intended to take care of the backside.
I also had my helmet rigged up with dual mounted spray string. What is more fun than spray string?

If we tried this look in Oklahoma they would run us over.
Riding out of Champain we rode through Urbana and The University if Illinois. Ruby Jean was all clean and polished and she had new (faster) tires and was ready to burn up the road but the wind had a different idea.
Not to sound like a broken record but....the wind was a unfriendly head/side wind all day long. We really deserve a few days of a neutral or favorable wind.
Illinois has a prison in Danville that is 150 yards from the Indiana border, I think that the back door must open to Indiana and ....poof, over crowded prison problem solved for Illinois.
                                                              Mowing a head
                                                Bike Wall in Hillsboro, IN
The rest day really helped out. People had their legs back today and with the winds the way they were we needed it. We had 3 new riders join the group yesterday, 2 will ride to Boston and 1 is riding for a week. I was asked by Barbie if I was having fun, I had to really think about it. Yes, I'm glad that I'm riding and there are enjoyable thing that happen during the day but to call this "fun" might be a stretch. The weather is what determines the gauge on the fun meter. The daily distance and weather have made for many "unfun" days.
This ride has always been about a goal and an adventure, the goal is getting closer and the adventure continues. The fun will come when we all get to Boston and celebrate together.
We are now on Eastern Standard Time and we only have 1 more rest day before Boston.
Tomorrow we will ride to Indianapolis.

We are getting closer my friends....fun is in sight.
Dream BIG, Jeff
