Day 31 Have you ever seen a pancake machine?

Day 31
Springfield, IL to Champaign, IL
86 Miles, 94 Muggy Degrees with calm side winds.

I was looking forward to an IHOP breakfast today with real fried eggs and some crepes but I had some emails that I had to deal with and it cut my time short so it was "hotel breakfast hell" for one more day.
This is the famous Pancake Machine that we have in hotels that don't have the waffle maker. With the pancake machine all you do is push the button and in 2 minutes it "shoots" out 2 semi edible pancakes.

Here we have Dapper Dave showing off the fake eggs and "sausage" gravy that is intended to be poured over the biscuits. We found the "Bag-o-Gravy" at a previous hotel, is not a refrigerated item, it was a 1 gallon bag of gravy goodness and we read the ingredients and nobody has eaten the biscuits and gravy since.
Tomorrow my goal is to have fried eggs, since tomorrow is a rest day I intend to walk as far as I need for some real eggs.

Today was actually a relaxing day compared to the last week. Yes, we had 86 miles along with the heat but it didn't feel as hot as the last few days and we had rather calm winds. Pictures of the scenery today would be more soybeans and more corn.

The first 32 miles we averaged just under 20 mph which is quite good and it really set the table for the rest of the day. Road conditions were poor in the 2nd half of the day and it continued to heat up but just knowing that tomorrow is a rest day made the day feel just fine.

So here is a hotel review, a week ago we stayed at a Drury Suites and it was really quite nice, free happy hour with munchies, good pool and comfortable large rooms. We have Drury Suites for the next 2 nights.
Since we are doing reviews...We have not had good luck with Days Inn, to be clear they stink. We have had Days Inn on 2 nights and both hotels were crap holes. On a cross country bike ride you really only need a hot shower and a good bed. Our 1st Days Inn had hot water issues and both hotels had substandard beds.

Tomorrow we ride to.....nowhere.
I will get a haircut and give Ruby Jean some special attention. Tomorrow will also be a day to get a load of office work done. Work?....Yes, I'm working on this ride which is a perfect segue  into asking for your business. I would love your business and my beautiful bride, Stephanie, would love for me to get back to work and getting some bills paid so....Who has Promotional Products, Print, Packaging or Multi Media needs, let me help.

Tomorrow I will blog about a ride update, thoughts of the 1st half of the ride and tales from the road that have not yet found their way to the blog.

Dream BIG, Jeff

  1. I think it would be fair to mention that eating the hotel crap is the option you chose and that CR provides a full restaurant breakfast if you want.

  2. Full breakfast has only been an option some of the time, overall the food selection has been limited.
