Switchbacks and Chili Cheese Fries

Day 6
Prescott AZ to Cottonwood AZ
44 miles with 6,000 ft gain.

Were were treated to a late start today since our days mileage was short.
Wind was again a factor early with it smacking us in the face and having early false flats.
False flats are roads that look flat but have a grade that cut your speed in half.

At mile 26 we reached the Mingus Mt. summit at 7,000 ft elevation.
Today was the first day that I felt the effects of the altitude.

After reaching the summit it was a 9 mile run down the backside of the mountain to the city of Jerome.
Jerome is a town that has been reclaimed from a mining ghost town to a artsy, hippieish, biker bar tourist trap that is built into the side of the mountain with stunning views of the Red Rocks of Sedona off in the distance.
