Cycle Oregon 2003 was the start of my love for cycle touring. Christmas 2002 I mentioned to my then 12 year old son that there was a great Father-Son adventure that we could do together in September. I explained that it was a 500 mile bike ride and that we would have a load of fun. Jeffrey wasn't entirely sold on the idea until I explained that he would get out of school for a week, I think that was the closer.
We started "training" for the ride, I was not a rider at this time so we bought a couple bikes and started riding. We really had no idea what we were doing but that made it all the better. We spent the summer learning how to handle the bikes and "trained" like we thought we should. We did the ride with another father & son team that we have known for many years of Little League, Curt & Nick Falbo helped lead "Team Lakeside" in a fantastic 2003 Cycle Oregon Adventure. It is was a week that I will always cherish.
Since 2005 I have ridden every Cycle Oregon with my lovely wife Stephanie and the last 2 years with
our "Team Soaras".
